Beyond LASIK, Implantable Collamer Lens, also called as Implantable Contact Lens is the most exciting advancement for vision correction. Implantable lenses, long used for treatment of cataracts, are now available for patients seeking vision correction too. Infact with ICL you can achieve high-definition vision without having to face the various risks associated with LASIK. Rather than changing the shape of the cornea as in LASIK eye surgery, implantable lenses are placed inside the eye to enhance the focusing abilities of the eye’s natural lens so as to provide excellent quality of vision for a wide range of vision correction. And in case your prescription changes, the lens is replaceable to maintain your vision for years to come.
Surgeons at Sharp Sight Centre were one of the first few to be accredited to perform the Implantable Collamer Lens surgery in India and are considered one of the leading practitioners of the ICL eye surgery in Delhi.
If you fall between the age group of 21 and 45 years and have high power glasses for near cornea or Myopia then you are an excellent candidate for ICL (Implantable Contact Lens). It can even treat patients with thin corneas, dry eyes and in certain cases patients with low refractive errors (where Lasik is not possible). Infact, if you have thin corneas or dry eyes, ICL may be the best vision correction option for you. As a word of caution, individuals with the previous history of ophthalmic diseases like Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, etc. should avoid this surgery.
People who cannot undergo LASIK, or those with chronically dry eyes, or extreme refractive error, can enjoy the benefits of the ICL Implant.
The patient should qualify for some simple tests as given below, to go ahead with an ICL implant.
If all the above measurements fall in the required range then, the patient would greatly benefit from this minor surgical procedure available at affordable cost, at all hospitals of Sharp Sight Centre.
While LASIK surgery involves cutting and removing eye tissue that cannot be replaced, concerns involving the cornea typically in high spectacle powered individuals do not apply to the ICL. In fact, no natural corneal tissue is permanently removed or reshaped in any way during the implantation of the ICL.
Let us brief you about Implantable Collamer Lens and how it’s used by Sharp Sight centre.
While you may have heard it called the Implantable Contact Lens, the ICL, it officially stands for Implantable Collamer Lens. Collamer is a technologically advanced lens material which is exclusive because of the collagen base present in Collamer. And collagen base is 100% compatible with your body’s natural chemistry. Among collamer’s advantages two of which tops the charts are its anti-reflectivity and UV protection. The Visian ICL is the best choice for a lens that is going to remain in your eye for a lifetime GIVING YOU CRYSTAL CLEAR VISION.
Doctors at Sharp Sight Centers were one of the first few in India to be accredited to perform this ICL surgery and are now considered one of the leading practitioners of the ICL technology in the country.
From Glasses to Contacts to LASIK, the ICL ushers in the next generation of vision technology. Many vision correction procedures promise an improved level of vision, but few can promise the level of quality found with the Visian ICL especially in higher spectacle powered individuals. This quality of vision in such individuals is called High Definition Vision because its sharper, clearer with greater depth and dimension, and it’s only available with the ICL .
The Visian ICL procedure is a short 8-14 minute outpatient procedure. Prior to the implantation of the Visian ICL, on one of the patient’s visits the doctor may use small bursts of laser to create some openings on your Iris followed by on the day of the surgery whereupon you will receive topical anesthetic drops to minimize any discomfort. The doctor then creates a micro opening to insert the lens. The lens is folded and then loaded into a small cartridge and when the lens is injected, it gently unfolds in your eye. Patients then experience an immediate improvement in vision quality and are “Wowed” by the results.
If you are between the ages of 21 and 45 and have high power glasses for near cornea or Myopia then, you are an excellent candidate for ICL (Implantable Contact Lens). The Visian IC is even able to treat patients with thin corneas, dry eyes and in certain cases, patients even with low refractive errors (where Lasik is not possible). In fact, if you have thin corneas or dry eyes, Visian ICL may be the best vision correction option for you. Indications for this procedure could be all of the above and even those cases where Lasik as a procedure is contraindicated or if Lasik performed but would give suboptimal results.
There are some simple tests to check the eligibility criteria for an ICL implant in a patient. If the patient qualifies for all these tests as in given below, then he can have an ICL implant.
If all the above measurements fall in the required range then the patient would greatly benefit from this minor surgical procedure.
For years, the only method of permanent vision correction that didn’t involve glasses or contacts was corrective laser eye surgery. With the advent of the Visian ICL, however, that’s all changed. Not only is there now a new alternative, but the Visian ICL (Implantable Contact Lens) may actually produce superior vision quality. It's gives vision that’s sharper, clearer, more vivid and has greater depth and dimension – in a simple, 15-minute outpatient procedure.
After the simple 10-14-minute outpatient procedure, patients experience an immediate improvement in vision quality and are “Wowed” by the results. The recovery for the Visian ICL is quick and pain-free, and may be as little as one day, due to the very small opening required. Patients typically experience minimal discomfort, and many times go back to work the next day.
One of the most common concerns people have about LASIK is that the procedure permanently changes the eye. On the other hand, one of the important advantages of the ICL is that while it can permanently correct your vision, in the unlikely event that an ICL patient experiences negative side effects after surgery, the lens can be removed and/or replaced rarely if necessary for some other issues.
While Lasik involves cutting and removing eye tissue that cannot be replaced, concerns involving the cornea typically in high spectacle powered individuals do not apply to the Visian ICL. In fact, no natural corneal tissue is permanently removed or reshaped in any way during the implantation of the ICL.
