We at Sharp Sight (Group of Eye Hospitals) offer Asia's best Stellaris machine aided Small Incision Cataract Surgery in Delhi, India.

Cataract Treatment

It was not long ago, when Cataract Surgery would put patients off their daily routine for more than weeks in a row with a common sight of their eyes strapped in swathes of bandage. But with advancement in technology, it takes less than 1 minute to finish the surgical process.

Cataract occurs more often in ageing eyes. It is opacity in the natural lens of the eye, which normally occurs with age. The normal lens in the human eye is transparent and allows light to reach the retina. When it becomes opaque (cataract) it does not permit light to reach the retina and therefore, the patient experiences foggy or cloudy vision.

Earlier, Cataract Surgery was performed with an incision of 12 mm. Over the years, with the advent of phacoemulsification / phaco the incision has been reduced to the minimum of 2.8-3.4mm (Fig.3).

This new technique of performing Cataract Surgery already made things easier and simpler, for both patients and surgeons. But with the advent of this new revolutionary technique of cataract removal called S-MICS (using coaxial-microincision cataract surgery), it has transformed the way Cataract Surgeries were ever conducted.

S-MICS (Micro Incision Cataract Surgery)

This involves the procedure of C-MICS (Coaxial - Micro Incision Cataract Surgery) through a 1.6 mm-1.8 mm with the implantation of a 3rd generation ultra thin foldable Intraocular Lens called MIL (Micro Incision Intraocular Lens) using the most advanced cataract removal system in the world, called "THE STELLARIS VISION ENHANCEMENT SYSTEM".

The procedure performed using this technology is called S-MICS.

The technique of S-MICS makes Cataract Surgery safer than before, painless, speedy and super accurate. The vision recovery post surgery is instant; within a matter of few minutes, with no need for pad or bandage after the surgery. The patient may even drive back home and resume with the daily activities on the same day or max within a day's time.

This kind of extremely high-quality Cataract Surgery has been made possible with the aid of this new technique called Stellaris-Micro Incision Cataract Surgery, also called S-MICS.

This revolutionary technique of cataract removal is done with a state-of-the-art equipment called "Stellaris Vision Enhancement System" by Bausch and Lomb, launched all over the world. It is one of the most advanced cataract removal systems, globally.

Advantages of S-MICS (Micro Incision Cataract Surgery)

The advantages of reducing the incision size from the present size of 2.8-3.4 mm with standard phacoemulsification by approximately 50% to 1.6-1.8mm, using the S-MICS are significant for patients:

  • Smaller incisions (50% smaller) heal faster which ultimately leads to faster vision recovery
  • Smaller incision induce lesser change of original shape of the eye. Hence less astigmatism and lesser requirement of post operative Spectacles
  • Enhanced quality of postoperative vision with improved IOLs having advanced optics technology thus rendering an enhanced vision contrast
  • Faster healing means good news for diabetic patients (those with delayed wound healing tendency)
  • Lesser incidence of infections (as the wound heals quickly)
  • Minimal restrictions post operatively (as the wound heals superfast)
  • Less follow up visits to the surgeon
  • The patient can get back to his normal life style like watching T.V, computer reading etc. nearly immediately.

All these above mentioned advantages contribute to the success of this particular Cataract Surgery-SMICS. It is safe even in the summer/rainy season, thus breaking the age old myth about cataract surgery being unsafe in a few specific months.

This surgery is completed using a special lens called the MI60 MIL which can be inserted through the original 1.6-1.8 mm.

These MIL-60 lenses offer the patient a clear vision across all varying light conditions and contrast situations.

These lenses are designed to give maximal quality of vision and reduce the rate of after cataract to bare minimum. In fact S-MICS is the most modern method of the cataract operation along with MIL done through a small (1.8mm to 1.6 mm) wound size, thus making the conventional technique of phaco of 3 mm obsolete.
